Invest Syracuse was announced earlier this summer as a way to promote and fund Chancellor Kent Syverud’s overarching Academic Strategic Plan.

A group of high-ranking Syracuse University officials will discuss a new academic initiative that includes a proposed $3,300 tuition hike during three public forums scheduled in September and October, the university said Thursday.

Vice Chancellor and Provost Michele Wheatly, along with several other administrators, will host panel discussions about the Invest Syracuse initiative on Sept. 5, Sept. 20 and Oct. 5, according to an SU News release.

The events will be held at Goldstein Auditorium in the Schine Student Center at the following times:

  • Sept. 5 from 3-4:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 20 from 3:30-5 p.m.
  • Oct. 3 from 3:30-5 p.m.

Invest Syracuse was announced earlier this summer as a way to promote and fund Chancellor Kent Syverud’s overarching Academic Strategic Plan.

Over the next five years, SU hopes to raise $100 million through the Invest Syracuse initiative, in part by a tuition increase. A $3,300 Invest Syracuse premium will be added to freshman and transfer student tuition in fall 2018, according to a July SU News release.

Students enrolled at SU this year will be grandfathered in and will not pay for the extra $3,300 premium, the university said.

SU also aims to raise an additional $40 million through fundraising and philanthropy and cut “administrative spending” by $30 million.

“The exact investments — line by line — have not been determined. This is intentional, so we can engage with the campus community,” Wheatly said in the news release.
